BY BUS
Taking the bus is the cheapest way to get to Bocas del Toro. Allow 10 hours for the trip. Go to Albrook Bus Terminal Terminal de Gran Transporte (www.grantnt.com)

BY PLANE
Flights from San José to Bocas del Toro run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (certain times of the year only, contact Nature Air for more information) and depart at 1:20 pm. Nature Air's terminal is located at Tobias Bolaños International Airport (SYQ) located approximately 5 miles west of downtown San José and is approximately 10 miles from Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San José, Costa Rica.
BY BUS
Take the bus company Transportes Bocatoreños, which leaves from the bus station as Panaline. Buses leave at 9:00 a.m. and arrive at the border around 3:00 p.m.
At the Sixaola border you will need to get an exit stamp from Costa Rica, then when you cross the border (a bridge) and join the Panamanian side (the town is called Guabito) you will need to get your passport stamped to enter Panama. Transportes Bocatoreños (758-8511 in Panama, and 2227-9523 or 2259-1325 in Costa Rica).Remember that you will need to show an exit plane or bus ticket from Panama, and if you don't have one, just buy a return bus ticket somewhere in Costa Rica.
Then you can continue your journey to Changuinola (about an hour). In Changuinola, you can take another bus to Almirante (less than $ 2) or a taxi (around $ 15) at the bus terminal. Once you get to Almirante, take a $1 taxi to the docks, from where you can catch a water taxi to Bocas del Toro ( $5 depending on the company).
